UPDATE:We have contacted Comcast and have been removed from the blacklist. We now have an open dialogue and contact with a Comcast representative and will hopefull be able to avoid this problem in the future. If your mail is blacklisted again, please email us at support@martnet.com and we will now be able to more quickly respond and deal with any problems that may arise with Comcast.
Currently, customers with websites and email addresses hosted on our primary webserver, www1.martnet.com, are unable to send email to any Comcast.net addresses, as we have been placed on a Comcast "blacklist".
This problem is ongoing and has been happening for several weeks now. We have tried on numerous occasions to contact Comcast via email, phone, and their many online forms. The only responses we have gotten are vague automated email messages that say "most of the email" received from our mail servers is spam. This is blatantly false and they have ignored our repeated requests to be removed from their blacklist and have ignored our requests for their help by giving us examples of these "spam" emails that are coming from our servers. Our phone calls go directly to a voice mail drop box where they say that "due to the high volume of calls", their normal 24 hours response time may be longer. This problem is not isolated to just MartNet. A google search for "comcast blacklist" turns up hundreds of links about many other major ISP's being blocked.
A few years back we had a similar problem with AOL. We were able to contact their abuse department by phone and speak to a live technician within minutes. We set up a relationship with them where they would send us a copy of every email that came from our servers that was marked as spam and since this system was set up, we have not been blocked by AOL again. We can only hope comcast will change their policies to work with other providers like AOL has.
We have no ETA of when this problem with comcast be resolved. We will keep trying to contact them in any way possible and we anxiously await their response. Keep reading this site for more updates.

UPDATE - JULY 5, 10PM EDT
Our network provider has swapped out a faulty network card in a core router. We are closely monitoring the network and connectivity to all major backbones. At this time, the issue appears to be fixed. We will continue to monitor our network and our providers' networks.
We are currently experiencing latency issues (slowdowns) with the network(s) going to our core servers. We have verified the problem is NOT with any MartNet servers or equipment, but within the peering facility in Philadelphia where the MartNet core servers provide.. We are working with our network providers to resolv the issue. This only effects some users and we are working with our bandwidth providers to isolate and solve the issue. All servers are up. If you experience delays or errors using MartNet services, please retry. Updates will be posted to this site.

On SATURDAY, JULY 9th at 9PM EDT
will be doing
a major software upgrade on our primary web server, www1.martnet.com.
We have a maintence window of about 1 hour but we are
only
expecting about 15 minutes of actual server downtime. We are doing
this

of some
old, obsolete software to make our server an ever smoother running

****** WE WILL BE UPGRADING OUR SPAMASSASSIN SPAM FILTERING SYSTEM. If you use Bayes Filtering you will need to re-train your filter, as the new version is not comatible with the old version. If you use the auto-learn function this will happen automatically, but some spam may now be filtered as the system is retrained. *******
*** During actaul server downtime, all mail will be
qeued in
our mail server so no mail will be lost
*** Dial up connections will remain the same. If you are
dialed in during the upgrade, or dial up during the downtime,
you connectiong to the internet will be unaffected.
*** All of your files will remain intact and the same
as they
were before. As usual, we have extensive back up procedures
and we will backing up all files before we do any upgrade.
We have been doing extensive testing of all the major
technologically heavy sites at MartNet to make sure that this

On August 2nd, 2004 we will be moving all numbers that currently reach our 002-Philadelphia site and pointing them to our 149-Dover site. Customers will experience disconnects and fast busies when using these numbers during the scheduled maintenance. Maintenance is expected to last most of the business day.
This means most of our dial up numbers in the Philadelphia may be inaccessible during day. We apologize for the inconvenience.

UPDATE
The server has come back up, and we have made some changes to our spamassassin configuration to help cut down the load. The spam filters are fully functional, and we will be closely monitoring the server and adjusting spamassassin settings further if necessary.
Around 7:30PM we started to experience a system slowdown. Our theory is that this is due to an overloading of our spam filters related to the heavy volume of email coming from the spread MyDoom virus. We had to perform an emergency reboot of our server and are now waiting for it to restart.
All incoming mail is being qeued while the server is down and will be delivered when the server comes back up.

Several nasty new Windows computer bugs have been clogging corporate networks
and personal email boxes in the past few weeks. Bugs such as
W32.Mimail.A@mm, W32.Welchia.Worm, W32.Sobig.F, and the Blaster Worm are
all over the news and all over your email box.
Your mailbox gets flooded with messages and it's hard to stop the flow
because people that don't know that they are infected send out hundreds
of messages, while others infected with worms are unknowingly probing
and attacking computers all over the internet.
There's way too many bugs out there for anyone to keep up with manually
but the best bet is to always run virus checking software on your
computer. We recommenend software from companies such as Symantec,
http://www.symantec.com/ . Make sure to set the software to update its
virus definitions automatically, every day. New variations pop up every
day and it's imperative to keep up to date.
Symantec also has a security based website that has many manual fixes
for some of these virii.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/
Also, it is very important to keep up to date with security updates from
Microsoft. Make sure that Windows Update is also set to check for
security updates everyday to help protect you agains worms. Also, check
http://www.microsoft.com/security/ for security updates and news on a
regular basis.
And, of course keep checking http://noc.martnet.com/ for the most update
news and server status
UPDATE:We are now blocking email with the most common
virus subject lines please see this page for more details:

It has come to our attention that there is a new virus/worm making the
rounds called "MiMail". If you receive a message from
"admin@martnet.com" that looks like this:
----------------------
Hello there,
I would like to inform you about important information regarding your
email address. This email address will be expiring. Please read
attachment for details.
Best regards,
Administrator
Attachment: Message.zip
----------------------
DO NOT OPEN THIS ATTACHMENT. DELETE THE EMAIL.
The MiMail worm sends copies of itself to addresses it finds on an
infected machine, and forges the "from" address in the email look like
it's coming from "admin@YOURDOMAIN.com". MartNet never sends emails from
"admin@martnet.com" and never sends attachments. This worm only affects
users running any version of the Windows operating system.
If you have opened the attachment, run your anti-virus software as soon
as possible. If you do not have anti-virus software, a fix can be found
here:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.mimail.a@mm.
removal.tool.html
If you haven't opened the attachment, you are probably not infected but
we always recommend that you run some sort of anti-virus software on
your computer, just in case.
For info about the worm check here:

Problem : Emergency Maintenance / Router Upgrades
Location: ALL
Our technicians are currently performing software upgrades to all routers across our Nationwide Dial-up network, to patch a new, rather nasty, Cisco/IOS vulnerability.
Each router upgrade takes from 5 to 10 minutes. There are a lot of routers to upgrade, so no ETA is available at this time.
You may experience problems only when the router that serves your access number is being upgraded. Problems may include Authentication failures, dropped connections, or the inability to access anything on the Internet after you dial in. Again, each router upgrade should take less than 10 minutes, so the inconvenience should be minimal.
If you do experience problems, and they do not correct themselves within 10 minutes or so, please let us know - our Customer Care Center can be reached at 1-888-530-3552
UPDATE - 8:00PM EDT
All core routers have been successfully upgraded. We will be upgrading all secondary routers over the next several days, and expect no problems or additional service inturruptions.

Problem : Emergency Maintenance / Router Upgrades
Location: PHILADELPHIA
The upgrades to the Philadelphia routers are not going as smoothly as the rest of the network. There are 2 routers in the Philly data center, so we are trying to keep service as stable as possible during the upgrades. However, please expect frequent dropped connections and network slowdowns while dialing into the Philly POP, and possible authentication problems.
All 215, 610, and 609 access numbers go to the Philly POP.
We expect to complete the upgrades and restore full service to the Philly POP by 6:30PM EDT.
UPDATE - 7:00 PM EDT
The upgrades have been completed and full service has been restored.

On AUGUST 20, at 10PM EDT, we will be preforming a major hardware upgrade to our primary web hosting server, WWW1.MARTNET.COM. We have a maintence window of about 2 hours but expect the actual server downtime to be much less. We're doing this upgrade to prepare for future expansion and to give the server an extra power boost.

On Tuesday, July 8th 2003, at approximately 7AM EDT, one of our primary
Virtual Hosting servers, www1.martnet.com, was knocked off line. We are
currently working to restore service as quickly as possible. Updates
will be posted here as they become available.
We are calling in our telephone technical support team early today, but
due to staff vacations and the previous holiday weekend we expect to be
short staffed today. We thank you in advance for using this news site
for updates rather than calling our Customer Care Center.
10AM EDT UPDATE
We are still working to restore the crashed server. At this time we have
not isolated the problem, and no ETA is available. Our Customer Care
Center is open but short staffed, so again, thank you for using this
news site for updates rather than calling our Customer Care Center. If
you DO call our Customer Care Center, you may experience busy signals or
be forwarded to Voice Mail. Rest assured we are working on the problem,
and updates will be posted here FIRST, as soon as they become available.
We thank you for your patience as we fix this server problem.
11AM EDT UPDATE
We have isolated the problem (a crashed disk) and are rebuilding it now.
We expect to have service restored in 1 to 2 hours.
12PM EDT UPDATE
We are still working to restore the crashed server. We expect to have
service restored within the next half hour.
12:30PM EDT UPDATE
Service has been fully restored. Our backup mail servers have qued all
messages during the outage, so no mail or other data was lost. All qued
mail should be delivered within the next 1 hour, so please be patient if
you're waiting for that urgent message - it will arrive shortly!
Also note that we were planning to upgrade www1.martnet.com to a faster,
more redundant (and thus crash-proof) system. We have pushed up our
upgrade schedule and will be replacing the server sometime in the next 2
weeks. We will be posting more information about the upgrade here, but
when it does occur, we expect there to be less than one hour of service
interruption, and we will be performing the upgrade at 2AM on a Sunday
morning to minimize the service interruption's impact on your service.
