Web 101
Things to think about when setting up a website.

Step 1 - Determine the purpose of your WebSite

A company web site is a virtual storefront that presents the ideals and services of your company to a global audience. Weather you are creating a brand new site for your company, or redesigning an existing site, you first should have a clear idea of what you want your site to accomplish.

Step 2 - Design and Develop your Web Site

This step is much easier said than done. There are hundreds of tools and thousands of books available to help you create your perfect Web site, based on your vision as determined in Step 1. You may want to hire a professional designer to create your site, or do it yourself. Either way, there are several important factors to consider when designing your site.

  1. What kind of information will you be presenting, and to whom?
  2. How much Interactivity, personalization, animation, etc. do you want to use?
  3. Will you be selling items or services on-line?

Step 3 - Uploading your site

This is the easy part. Click here for full instructions.

Step 4 - Marketing your Web Site

Now that you have a Web Site, you obviously want people to visit it. There are millions of Web Sites available world-wide, so how will people find your site, and why should someone visit your site once they are aware of it's existence? The answer to these two questions all comes down to marketing, and if you don't effectively market your site, you wasted your time and money in creating one in the first place.

Large corporations spend thousands or even millions of dollars marketing themselves, and their Web Site is just one part of their overall marketing strategy. You probably do not have that kind of marketing budget, but you should have an overall marketing plan for your company. This plan should include your Web Site (and in some cases, your Web Site will be your only form of marketing)
